BMW 7 Series: Long-wheelbase version powered by a diesel engine for the first time.
Starting in September 2005, the long-wheelbase version of the BMW 7 Series will be available for the first time with a diesel engine, to be precise with BMW’s 3.0-litre straight-six diesel.
Featuring the latest diesel technology, this power unit equipped with a maintenance-free diesel particle filter meets all the requirements of the EU4 emission standard. Developing maximum output of 170 kW/ 231 hp and peak torque of 520 Nm/383 lb-ft, this outstanding engine consumes 3.5 per cent less fuel than its predecessor despite the increase in engine power.
The BMW 730Ld accelerate to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 238 km/h or 148 mph. Fuel consumption in the composite EU cycle is a moderate 8.2 ltr/100 km or 34.4 mpg Imp.
Generous equipment for maximum comfort.
Compared with the standard-wheelbase version, the BMW 730Ld comes with additional attractive equipment such as Nasca leather upholstery, electric seat heating front and rear, electrical sunblinds at the rear, self-levelling on the rear axle, as well as ornamental roof trim strips in either chrome or body colour.
A wide range of additional features ensures an even higher standard of comfort for the passengers at the rear: Rear seat air conditioning with a separate climate compressor, electrically adjustable comfort seats, active seat ventilation, a second telephone handset, a cooling box and a display screen at the rear with its own Controller in the rear centre armrest enabling the passengers to watch TV programmes in either analogue or digital mode, or to use the optional DVD player.
The new mobile phone preparation kit comprises not only a Bluetooth interface, but also a firmly installed TCU Telematics Control Unit enabling the customer to use all BMW Assistant and mobile BMW Online internet services independently of his own mobile phone.
BMW 745d: the most powerful diesel luxury saloon.
Entering the 2006 model year, BMW's top-of-the-range 745d diesel now boasts significantly more power and torque. With maximum output of 242 kW/330 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm/553 lb-ft, the BMW 745d remains the diesel luxury saloon with the highest power and torque.
Offering enormous power reserves at all times, this unique diesel accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h or 155 mph (electronically limited). Despite the increase in engine output and torque, fuel consumption remains an astoundingly low 9.5 litres/100 km or 29.7 mpg Imp. New assistance systems: BMW Night Vision and High-Beam Assist.
The new assistance systems enhance safety when driving at night to a new level never experienced before, making life much easier for the driver by enabling him to recognise critical situations earlier than in the past.
Further features being introduced immediately in Germany are the rain sensor and automatic driving light control on the 730d/Ld, 730i/Li, and 740i/Li (standard on all models).
